Isabel Marant has to be one of my all time favourite designers. Each season I eagerly await her runway images, and the candid social media shots can be even better picking up some of the incredible details. However… it is slightly out of my modest budget so I do get very excited when I find pieces that have taken their inspiration from her collection. Not talking rip-offs but taking a design element and playing with it to create a version of the original at a cost I can justify every season.
2014 I spent most of the Summer lusting after her winged sandals and last year those exquisite ankle cuff designs. Zara had some copy-cat versions that were just a little too close to the original and I shied away from. But this year its all about her cord sandals. Flats and heels but all with stretches of natural rope entwined around the foot and up the ankle. The perfect mix of masculine and feminine and finally something different from the swathes of gladiator sandals.
So this week I stumbled across a £19.99 pair of black cord sandals in H&M and didn’t hesitate for a moment to snap the beauties up. Mixing leather with the rope gives them a different look but they still have that same masculine/feminine nautical style element.
